Stu's gardening meme (I've been tagged!)

Stu from Gardening for Dummies has made up a meme. The idea is for people he's tagged to answer these questions. His answers are on his blog (linked from above), and I tag one or more people at the bottom of this post to answer the questions in turn. It's a good way to find out more about a person. Also, I had not had any brainwaves about a post this week, so this comes at a good time.

If I was only allowed to keep one plant in my garden which would it be?
The crepe myrtles (we have two so I think that's allowed as the one plant). They have a long flowering season with a magnificent color; even without leaves and flowers they still show off their beautiful bark; and as they are at the front of the house, they create a great entry to the property.

If there was only one thing invented in the past 100 years that I was permitted to keep, what would it be?
The automatic washing machine. Without that life would be too dreary, and you wouldn't have enough time to do other stuff.

Name 3 animals you saw yesterday (excluding cats and dogs).
1. dozens of ducks on the university campus where I work
2. the head and hind quarters of a rat one of my cats killed
3. (heard) a heron flying overhead

Which season do you like the most?
In Melbourne it has to be the autumn. The weather is very stable, still warm but with a hint of the changing season. And it means the footy season is back.

Name the person who inputed the most wisdom into your life?
My parents: Mom because she showed me the importance of family life, and Dad because he made me look at alternatives to what I thought were preordained paths for me to take.

I'm tagging the Other Val again.

Val, I'm not sure the rat counts. It sounds like that was only half an animal.

I loved your response to the last question. It sounds like you've tickled the top of an iceberg and I'd love to hear more.

Thanks for playing the game.

I am going to have to get one of those myrtles. They are lovely. I'd keep the washing machine too althought I'd be hard pressed to give up my computer. Sounds like your parents were super!

Val, Alice has tagged me with this one. I hope I can come up with answers as good as yours!
I think you have a picture of the crepe myrtle in your archives, don't you? Would you direct me to it please? I'd like to look at it again. Thanks.

Never mind....I belatedly saw your link to the crepe myrtle. It's just beautiful. Such a lovely vibrant colour!
I'm hard pressed to think of 3 animals I saw...may have to cheat and say cats!

Stu,
yes, there are the makings of a post in that last answer. I'll work on it this weekend - going away to the country - yee hah! Taking my hiking boots too, although it may be too hot to do much walking.

Wendy,
my parents are STILL super! But unfortunately they live on the other side of the Pacific. Mom would say that I'M the one who lives on the other side of the Pacific.

Kerri,
Can't wait to read your and Alice's responses. Yep, the myrtles are still blooming, over 2 months and they look like they've got another few weeks to go. I'll try to note the date when the last bloom has gone.

Why is it that everyone likes autumn best (me included)??

Hi, Tanya,

It’s really an obvious one for Melbourne, but I think an important drawcard in colder climates is the turning of the colors. In other places I’d imagine Spring would be the choice of many, but I’ve always found that the most unpredictable season in Melbourne, and that’s saying something! It’s a real tease: first the promise of some warm days, getting everyone thinking, “ooh, summer’s coming” and then whammo! back to wind and rain. Although we could use a few of those seasons here, what with the 10-year drought.

Dear anon,

I think someone is being cheeky here, but I will soon feature some photos of first born (not Techie Son, will have to come up with a name for him at some stage).
