My retirement hair

Jelly left a comment on my last post concerning one of my photos: Val, have you gone blonde?! Or is it just the lighting? Whatever the case, you are looking gorgeous, too!).

For a while I've been thinking about posting about my hair (boy, what a vanity topic). Since I retired - oh wonderful state of being - I thought it would be a good time to see what my hair really looks like, after having had it tinted or colored since the 70s. The last time I had it tinted was just before we went to San Francisco in October last year. So what you see is my natural hair color and I have been getting all sorts of comments, such as Have you had tips/highlights put in?. Even my son gave me an unsolicited compliment. I'm laughing: saving time and money, and getting compliments too.

The only downside is that I don't get to sit at the hairdressers, reading magazines and copying down recipes, and more importantly, enjoying the vibe of a very convivial salon run by a husband and wife. They don't have music playing, and there are always interesting conversations to listen to and/or participate in. I don't know about you, but I have always loved being at the hairdressers.

As for looking gorgeous, well, I might put that down to being so damned happy and relaxed, that my happiness vibes are blinding people. Can you believe that I finished working in June and the joy STILL hasn't worn off? Has anyone ever taken such glee in retirement before?

I think your hair looks great, but the smile on your face is what everyone really notices!!
I haven't colored my hair in about 8 yrs now. I think the way one feels inside it's what makes a person look old, not the color of their hair!
hugs!

You bet I know the glee of retirement...it's been three years for me and I've never once regretted my decision. I love waking up each morning with the freedom to do what I want when I want to do it. :~)

Your happiness certainly does shine from your face...look at those sparkling eyes and that beautiful smile:-) My mom use to dye her hair blonde for as many years as I can remember...I never knew her as having anything but blonde hair! So, when she suddenly decided to go her natural colour, I had a hard time recognizing her! lol Her hair is very dark and although she's 75 years old, hardly has any grey hairs at all!

Ah, the hair colour mystery is solved!

Like the other commenters, I think your gorgeousness is more than just the hair, though. Maybe it IS your happiness shining through. I'm so glad you are loving your new life, Val!

You are a great advertisement for retirement - but I dont think I can join you just yet. Although the UK retirement age for women my age, is 60 - my work pension scheme wont kick in till I am 65. So on I plod... and yes, nature's highlights in one's hair are a wonderful thing.

I'd give you the prize for exultation Val!
Your frosted tips suit you :)
I'd miss my hairdresser if I didn't see her. She's a perky little thing and fun to chat with (a fellow gardener). I just get a cut and do the color myself. I don't want to live with the gray yet. I'm not looking as gorgeous as you :)
That really is a lovely smile you have :)

Don't worry about looking so happy Val, the football season will start soon and then the blues will set in again.

You shine Val! Please, I have a question about the shortcake, it does not say baking powder there, is it ok? I want to make it tomorrow. Thanks!

I think your hair looks great too. I don't tint or color my hair and I'm getting grey at the temples and an assortment of scattered grey, so I am seriously thinking of maybe coloring my hair. I haven't made up my mind yet.

My joy of retirement still hasn't worn off either and I've been retired since 1994. If you are happy and relaxed and enjoying life, the joy can go on & on for years. Take my word for it.
