Our rainwater tank was finally delivered and installed on Friday. It has been a long wait as the suppliers could not keep up with the demand due to the drought. Now we can start collecting 5000 litres for use in the garden and pool. A hose will go under the house and out into the back garden - there's quite a fall so we won't need a pump. It started raining shortly after the tank was hooked up and what a wonderful sound that was, listening to the water pour into the tank.

We park the cars in front of the moveable fence which is on castors.
After only a couple of hours of moderate rainfall, water had already reached the lower tap on the right. I wonder if we should give the tank a name.

I was thinking it looked more like a FRED. Yeah. Not clever or amusing but that's what popped into what I laughingly refer to as my mind.

But since your cistern is shaped like a Sumo wrestler so maybe it should have a Japanese name.

It'll be a great relief to have a back up scource of water to use when you need it. I hope you'll be able to plant some flowers now to add a little color to the garden. You must've missed having flowers to enjoy.
What a great idea to conserve water. And I think naming this new addition to your family is just what you need to do. And if we're voting, add mine to John's suggestion.
I'm sure that rainfall was a great sound to hear. Our son has two tanks similar to that for their (only) water supply to their home. Theirs are spring fed and in drought years they have to pay for water to fill them. I like John's idea also. Maybe you could do a Japanese design on the tank :)

he he... yes, I think you should name your tank for sure! It looks good - nicely screened and tucked away. How wonderful that you have had rain already, too.
We got our tank installed about two weeks ago, and it is an absolute eyesore! - close to the house, huge, and very green. So far it is called Fred. I have a very tenuous relationship with Fred. May have to do a post about him...!

I knew I could rely on readers to come up with some good ideas. A Japanese theme would be good, as our garden has a Japanese look to it. I will work on a name and post about it. But don't let that stop you from throwing more ideas into the pot!

Val, Cindy used to have a toy camel named Ben Gamal and I always kinda liked that name for things that hold water. Congrats on getting the tank! Looks like some I have seen in Alaska.

Look very smart indeed. At the moment we only have a 500 litre tank at one end of the deck but it's amazing how even that small amount can be used for such a long time on all the pot plants. I hope yours will be a great boon in keeping your garden looking as beautiful as you want it.

Val my 113000 [ one hundred and thirteen thousand ] litr tank is now FULL! as are both the 4500 ones linked to it. Dam's still only about half full though. Yours??
